Sergeant Earl Read is a 17 yr veteran of the Warwick Police Department and currently serves as the Traffic Division Supervisor.  Sergeant Read has many daily responsibilities within his current assignment which include but are not limited to:  monitoring of work zone safety at all construction details, overseeing all fatal/serious motor vehicle accident investigations, coordinating funeral and VIP escorts which include the department’s motorcycle officers, coordinating with RIDOT as well as various city agencies with future traffic construction and planning, training and monitoring the cities crossing guards, and training the cities Community Service Officers who work road construction details.  Sergeant Read also completes quarterly analysis of all traffic crashes throughout the city in order to target these areas in an effort to reduce these incidents.  Sergeant Read himself is also a certified Accident Reconstuctionist having successfully completed all three phases of this rigorous training which spans a total of six weeks.

Sergeant Read also currently serves as an Accident Investigation instructor at the RI Municipal Police Training Academy which trains all municipal police officers in the State with the exception of Providence and RI State Police.  Prior to his current assignment, Sergeant Read held the position of Accreditation Manager and successfully led the Warwick Police Department to be re-accredited through CALEA.

Sergeant Read’s efforts directly impact the safety of the motoring public on a daily basis not only in the city of Warwick but throughout the State.

It is for these reasons that AAA recognized Sergeant Earl Read as the local traffic hero for our community.
