Promotion and Commendation Ceremony
The Warwick Police Department held a promotion ceremony at City Hall Wednesday night following the recent retirement of Major Raymond Gallucci.
Major Gallucci was recognized for his long and successful career of nearly 29 years in which he served in every division of the department. Major Gallucci also had an equally successful career in the Rhode Island Army National Guard and US Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Colonel and serving in Iraq with the 103rd Field Artillery Brigade. Major Gallucci is currently the Director of Security at the Warwick Mall.
Captain Chris Kelley, pictured, was promoted to Major and is now in charge of the Operations Division of the department, which oversees all patrol, community policing and detective functions. Major Kelley is the highest ranking female police officer in the state.
Lieutenant Rick Rathbun was promoted to Captain and is now the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Third Platoon which is the overnight shift for patrol.
Sgt Lori Michailides was promoted to Lieutenant and is now assigned as the Assistant OIC of Third Platoon.
A promotion to Sergeant is anticipated after the upcoming promotion process is completed.
Officers Matt Smith and JT Smith were received their first step promotion having completed their one year as a probationary patrolmen.
Three new officers were sworn in as patrolmen: Ryan Lancaster, Gavin McVeigh and Timothy Lipka. Each are all experienced police officers from other departments and are new welcome additions to the department.
Various commendations were presented as well to 8 Officers, 4 Detectives, 4 Dispatchers and 4 Citizens who were recognized for their actions helping officers during the conduct of their duties.
Citizens Danielle Andersen, Zoe Sprouls, Cameron Murray and Tammy Stewart all received a Certificate of Appreciation for their exceptional rendering of aid to a Warwick Police Officer.
