The Warwick Police Department has hired a private fund raising organization. This company will indicate that they "are calling on behalf of FOP #7." Our fund raising organization will never ask for specific denominations of money.
Be advised, there is a potential scam where a person or group are making calls not affiliated with the FOP #7. This group appears to be calling from a phone number coming up as a RI cell phone on caller ID. This group is also asking for specific denominations of money ranging from $50 and up. These people have been described as very forward and aggressive with the "requests." This other organization appears to be saying they are members of the Warwick Police.

The N.I.T.E. Program stands for Neighborhood Intensive Traffic Enforcement Program and its goal is address traffic related complaints and concerns throughout the City of Warwick. This program is unique in that it is divided equally across the Cities nine (9) Wards with each Ward receiving funds recently approved by the Warwick City Council to address a variety of traffic related complaints and concerns. Officers conduct four (4) hour details during various days/times within target specific areas in an effort to combat a traffic problem such as speeding/stop sign violations or identify if a problem may be perceived more than actual. Complaints are lodged through a variety of sources such as the individual Council members, the Mayor’s office, or the Police Department which does routine analysis of accidents as well as studies of traffic problems in order to determine areas which require additional traffic related resources.
The N.I.T.E. program is administered through the Department’s Community Services Division which is headed by Lieutenant Michael Gilbert and overseen by Traffic Division Sergeant Earl Read.

The Warwick Police Department Detective Division located the vehicle and person involved in an enticement of a child complaint initiated on October 11th.
The investigation determined that the incident did not occur within the confines of Warwick City Park but on Wellington Ave, which is a residential street in the area of City Park. The investigation also determined that there was no attempt to entice, lure or abduct the 13 year old male involved.
The individual in the gray van, determined to be an area resident, was forthcoming and cooperative with police during the investigation. The circumstances revealed that at some point Friday afternoon the family’s cat ran off from the residence. In an attempt to locate the pet, the individual stopped and asked people, who were out in the neighborhood, if they had seen the cat.
The 13 year old male, who was skateboarding in the area with friends, was approached by the individual. The individual also approached an adult female, who was walking in the neighborhood, provided his address and asked that she contact the family if they found the cat.
The 13 year old male should be commended for advising his parents and the police since he felt as though the man’s actions were suspicious. According to the National Crime Prevention Council the 13 year old acted accordingly by: “Trust your instincts. If something or some-one makes you uneasy, avoid the person or situation, leave as soon as possible and report the incident.”
He was able to provide an accurate description of the man and his vehicle, which greatly aided police in developing a positive identification.
In situations like this one, it is then the responsibility of the police to investigate these matters. Because of the 13 year olds actions the Warwick Police were able to investigate the incident and determine there was no nefarious intent on the part of the individual, calming neighbor’s fears.
The Warwick Police Department was among three law enforcement agencies to be recognized as the first to earn accreditation from the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission, Mayor Scott Avedisian and Colonel Stephen McCartney announced today. Warwick, the Rhode Island State Police, and the Smithfield Police Department were honored Tuesday morning during the Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association Technology Expo.
To earn this new accreditation, Warwick had to comply with 200 standards – 188 of which the department already regularly meets to earn national re-accreditation from CALEA – as well as an additional 12 in such areas as social media usage, firearms qualifications, background investigations, and mutual aid agreements with other agencies in non-emergency events.
