On July 23, 2013, as result of news video that aired the previous day, Warwick Police Department Detectives received information which led to the arrest of a suspect in a series of liquor store larcenies which were caught on surveillance cameras.  On July 12-16, several area liquor stores had been victimized by a suspect stealing specialty vodka.  During these thefts, surveillance video showed the suspect placing bottles of “Chiroc” vodka in his pockets and exiting the store.  The surveillance video was aired on the evening news yesterday, and as a result, someone identified the suspect involved.  Detectives were able to positively identify the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant from the Kent County District Court.  The suspect was then arrested at his home on that arrest warrant.  The suspect is identified as Tawan Burgess, 32 of Warwick.  He was charged with (2) counts of Shoplifting from the Haxton’s Liquor Store at 1222 Bald Hill Road and The Haxton’s West Bay Liquors at 2430 West Shore Road.  The suspect’s information was turned over to West Warwick Police Detectives for investigation into a shoplifting from a liquor store in that town as well.
